There has never been a greater time for vision correction with LASIK!
Dr. Robert Maloney is the clear choice for vision correction surgery.
Dr. Robert Maloney has the following advice for quality care and treatment:
Dr. Robert Maloney suggests that you find a doctor by getting referrals from other doctors or from patients who have had laser vision correction.
Dr. Robert Maloney warns don’t be fooled by fancy advertisements about a particular laser center. Choose the doctor, not the laser center. Find out who will actually do your procedure, then ask about that doctor’s qualifications (e.g., board certification, special training).
Dr. Robert Maloney advices to choose a doctor who has done at least 5,000 LASIK surgeries. What a doctor doesn’t know can hurt you.
Ask for information on your doctor’s complication rates, during surgery. If your doctor won’t tell you, find another one. For top surgeons, the figure is under 3 in 1,000 says Dr. Robert Maloney.
Ask what measures are taken to prevent infection. Look for a center with a sterile or dust-free operating room. Make sure that disposable parts are not reused. Insist that your eye be thoroughly sterilized. Also insist that the surgical instruments be sterilized before your surgery to eliminate the risk of transmission of HIV or hepatitis.
Beware of advertisements pushing “low cost” surgery. Discount surgery is as good as a discount parachute. The potential savings are not worth the risk of receiving less than expert care!
Expect to see very well after LASIK, but don’t expect to see perfectly. Each patient gets a slightly different result. The best surgeon in the world can’t guarantee 20/20 vision. As with any surgery, results are as individual as each patient. Beware of any doctor who promises 20/20 vision. Consult Dr. Robert Maloney.
If you feel like you’re getting a hard sell, you probably are. Go elsewhere. You’re not buying a car - this is real surgery.
Choose a doctor who is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology like Dr. Robert Maloney. Fellows must pass a rigorous board certification exam and conform to a strict code of ethics.
While you investigate, don’t lose sight of the benefits: for most people a lifetime of bad vision can be cured in 5 minutes. LASIK surgery has improved the eyesight of millions of people around the world.

Because your eyes and your vision are as unique to you as your fingerprints and DNA, it's very difficult for us to know whether vision correction surgery can benefit you without a personal examination. However, many recent medical advances, some pioneered right here at the Maloney Vision Institute, have made it possible to correct problems that couldn't be fixed just a few years ago.
Monovision laser surgery with Dr. Robert Maloney corrects one eye for distance and one eye for near. In monovision, the distance eye will do most of the work when looking at objects in the distance such as when driving or watching TV, and the near vision eye will do most of the work when looking at close objects like a computer screen or a book. Yet, your brain selects the correct eye automatically and seamlessly switches between the two. Monovision correction is very similar to stereo surround sound. Audio is transmitted in right and left channels and heard through respective ears yet you do not notice the separation. You hear one unified audio stream without thinking about which ear to use.
The Visian Implantable Collamer Lens is another type of Phakic Intraocular Lens which is manufactured from a soft foldable polymeric material called Collamer. The cornea is actually comprised of collagen and so this material provides excellent biocompatibility and superior optical capability. It is readily implanted in your eye behind the iris, or colored part of the eye, by gently folding it and injecting into the anterior chamber through a tiny incision only 3.0mm in length placed by the eye surgeon at the clear edge of the cornea.
